Overview
Title:  Criteria for Nonstandard Airdrop Equipment and Payloads
Scope:  The purpose of this standard is to provide requirements for the preparation and execution of  irdrop of nonstandard loads and use of nonstandard airdrop equipment to preclude any hazards that would endanger life or equipment. It is intended to supplement the basic aircraft loading manual or airdrop manual (TO 1C-XXX-9 or TO 1C-XXX-1-4) and airdrop technical publications by furnishing additional data pertinent to airdrop. These criteria are to be used by Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) or other Air Force Personnel charged by proper authority with the responsibility for technical approval of nonstandard airdrop loads, equipment, or procedures. It is the basic document for implementing the aerial delivery test agreements between AFMC and the operating commands. These criteria are furnished to test personnel in order that they may expedite testing through preparation of test items within the parameters of these criteria. Other Air Force publications pertaining to airdrop will be reviewed for conformance to these criteria prior to release. Note that possession of this document does not constitute authority to approve nonstandard airdrop loads. AFI 24-203 (previously AFR 80-18 and AFR 76-18) delegates the responsibility for airdrop approval to the Air Transportability Test Loading Activity (ATTLA) which is currently in AFLCMC/EZFC, Wright-Patterson AFB.
